This vintage fit and flare dress is absolute 1950s perfection. The construction is just amazing, with a true princess-cut bodice (see the vertical panels running from the chest to the hem, creating a defined hourglass waist, and then flaring at the skirt). Piping under the bust heighten that super-flattering hourglass shape. There is built-in tulle petticoat in the skirt to create the full-skirt shape— this is a really important detail, as 1950s fit and flare dresses were designed to be worn with petticoats underneath, but in most cases they don't come with one. (Back in the day, an entire wardrobe of petticoats was common!). Obviously, you will see many contemporary dresses drawing inspiration from this classic 1950s silhouette, but they truly can't hold a candle to the original, because the construction and workmanship that went into making these vintage dresses creates an unparalleled fit— modern dresses just don't have it! I love the half-length sleeves (which feel very 1950s) with the kimono-cut shoulder. The polka dot fabric is a very lightweight voile, and it's fully lined so there's no sheerness when worn. Closes in the back with a zipper.
