Vintage 1950s Fit And Flare Dress
Vintage 1950s Fit And Flare Dress
This vintage fit-and-flare dress was custom made in the late 1940s/early 1950s and features the most flattering fit, a nod to Christian Dior's "New Look" of 1947. Following the bleak years of Wartime fashion, Christian Dior introduced his "New Look" in 1947 to much fanfare, and the nipped-waist, full-skirted, ultra-feminine look went on to define the 1950s. What's so amazing about this dress in particular is that it can be reversed, giving two distinct looks in one! It has a fitted bodice with a full circle skirt— it would be amazing worn with aa petticoat underneath for even more volume! The bateau neckline is forever a favorite of mine— so elegant and flattering! The front (or back, depending on how you wear it) has darts for a fitted look, and on the reverse, a notched scoop neckline with bow accent. The 3/4 length sleeve has some intentional fullness and pleating at the elbow, creating a shape typical of this era. It closes with a hidden zipper in the side seam.
Great vintage condition. There is some very tiny and faint discoloration at one shoulder but it's not noticeable when worn because of the placement and the color of the fabric (it's just a speck).
