VINTAGE 1970s TWO-PIECE CORSET TOP ENSEMBLE
VINTAGE 1970s TWO-PIECE CORSET TOP ENSEMBLE
This vintage 1970s lace-up bustier and skirt two-piece set draws inspiration from the iconic Yves Saint Laurent Fall 1976 "Ballet Russes" collection. It features a black lace-up bustier top, and an A-line maxiskirt with a large-scale nautical print. In 1976, Yves Saint Laurent showed this highly-influential collection (one that he later described as his favorite in his 30+ years designing) and its influence on fashion is impossible to overstate. Meanwhile, with his revolutionary Rive Gauche ready-to-wear collection, Yves Saint Laurent was pushing separates, which hardly sounds subversive today, but it indeed was, when designers were almost exclusively showing dresses. This particular set is a reflection of that: two pieces that are designed to be worn as an ensemble, but are equally as chic worn separately, giving you so many distinct looks in one. The top laces up the front (which makes the sizing very adjustable) and there is also a placket that can be snapped into place underneath where the laces are, so that no skin is shown, if you wish. The fabric also stretches to create a custom, flattering corset-like fit. The skirt is a sturdy fabric, with darts at the waist and an A-line cut. It comes with a matching black belt, to be worn in belt loops at the waist.
