1940s Satin Basque-Waist Bodice With Lace Sailor Collar
1940s Satin Basque-Waist Bodice With Lace Sailor Collar
This vintage basque-waist bodice was custom made by hand in the late 1940s/early 1950s, originally attached to a dress, and it has been loving restored and brought back to life as a blouse. The true princess-seam bodice is so beautifully tailored, with a flattering, fitted shape and a pointed basque waistline. The sleeves are meant to be looser towards the top with a sort of dropped armhole and dropped shoulders, and pleats at the elbow, all of which is very typical of garments from the 1940s and 1950s. It's crafted of an ivory duchesse satin, with an antique Victorian lace sailor collar, complete with hand-embroidered crystal embellishment, and colorless beading at apex of neckline. In this era, it was common for dress makers to repurpose antique lace (mostly from the Victorian era) for newly made dresses. Custom-made fabric-covered buttons fasten all the way down the back, with snaps at the high lace neck covered to match the buttons; here, in the back of the neck, there is also boning to keep it upright as intended. The attention to detail here is really something you will never find in modern clothing. The pointed cuffs have a lace detail peeking out, echoing the collar, and set with a single crystal embellishment. It's such an exquisite option for an unexpected vintage bridal look.
The Vintage Ivory Silk Miniskirt, vintage French Pearl Earrings, and Vintage Marquise Crystal Earrings pictured are also available.
