This skirt suit was made in the 1940s in the style of Chanel, when Coco Chanel was first creating a revolution with her skirt suits in a similar tweed. This set's tweed is black with light-reflecting metallic gold elements, and it's quite stretchy. Both pieces are lined in a silky material for comfort. The jacket features an exaggerated collar (classic 40s) and jeweled buttons down the center. The skirt has a flattering pencil silhouette with a high waist.

Chanel was inspired by menswear. She first got the idea to use tweed after borrowing sportswear from her beau, the Duke of Westminster. In the 1920s, she enlisted a classic Scottish factory to produce her tweeds, but by the 1930s, she switched production to the north of France, and began experimenting with wools, silks, cottons, and the metallic elements for which Chanel suits are often recognized.
