Vintage 1960s Oscar De La Renta Embellished Long Sleeve Minidress

This rare vintage 1960s Oscar de la Renta embellished dress is made with couture-level craftsmanship and is a true wearable work of art. Born in the Dominican Republic, Oscar de la Renta worked in Europe through the 1950s when French fashion was at such a pivotal point— first as a designer for Balenciaga, and later as assistant designer to Antonio Castillo at Lanvin-Castillo, Paris from 1961-1963. In the 1960s, he brought what he had learned working at the couture house to New York, and eventually started his own label, which, in a way, was the true "American couture house" of its time. He is known for feminine, ornate styles, and his attention to detail, and this dress is no exception. It is so beautifully made from the inside out, crafted of the most gorgeous floral lace, with metallic gold and white raffia-esque embroidery. It is fully lined in silk in the bodice and skirt but sheer in the arms, and I love that the sheerness allows the details to really shine. The embellishment creates a bolero trompe-l'œil, a nod to the styles of the 1960s. This embellishment is so intricate and ornate, and really like nothing I've seen before— gold chains, strands of crystals, and gold metallic rope are deftly braided to create this gorgeous trim. The V-neck gives way to a hidden front opening, which closes with strategically placed hooks and snaps.

Good vintage condition overall; there are some minor areas of discoloration but because of all the details, textures, and embellishment, it gets lost in the fabric and appears to be part of the design/isn't noticeable when worn. There are some areas where the lace/sheer tulle has been repaired but it also isn't noticeable when worn.
