Galanos was *THE* premier American Couturier, America's answer to high French couture for much of the 20th century. Immaculately constructed, this vintage 1980s Galanos demi-couture gown is an example of his one-of-a-kind work. Hubert de Givenchy, who once examined the inside of a dress by Galanos, remarked in amazement: “We don’t make things this well even in Paris”. and in a way, that says it all. Constructed in lustrous, vibrant red silk satin, it features a silhouette that only Galanos could achieve so deftly. From the wrapped empire waistband, to the bat-wing sleeves that taper at the cuffs, it exudes glamour in every element. It was clearly hand-draped and features hand sewing in places. It features a hidden interior waistband to hold everything in place while appearing effortless: details that set vintage couture apart, and ones you would be hard-pressed to find in a modern gown. The sloped shoulders are sculpted by hidden shoulder pads, and there is a belt tie in the back, which can be worn loose, or knotted with the tails left streaming behind you. Note that the fabric is not listed but it is silk satin. The Vintage Les Bernard Gold & Pearl Earrings pictured are also available.
