This incredible antique 1920s velvet opera coat features mutton sleeves (with voluminous puffed shoulders tapering to be fitted from the elbow to the wrist) and an oversized draped bow detail at the collar. It's incredibly chic, and despite being 100 years old, it feels entirely wearable today. It's lined in beautiful contrasting ivory-toned silk. It was purchased from the luxury department store B. Altman in New York City, known for high-quality, custom-made clothing, influenced by Parisian fashion, and sometimes manufactured in France. It features so much handwork, and so many hand-finished details, from the interior pocket in the lining, to sculptural form of the hand-draped bow. It gives two very different silhouette depending on if it's clasped: It has a button at the mock-neck collar, so it can be worn closed, with a high neck, or it can be worn draped open, to reveal the fabulous outfit you're wearing underneath... making this opera coat really become part of the look, as opposed to an after-thought.
Measurements: This will fit a range of sizes depending on desired fit— please refer to below measurements to be sure.
Shoulders: 16.5"
Chest: there are no closures here, and the front of the coat overlaps/is meant to drape open, so there is a great deal of flexibility. Across the back is 18.5" laid flat, so doubled, that would be 37" not considering the overlap etc.
Length: 37.75" from shoulder to hem
Condition Notes: This piece is in wearable vintage condition, and it presents nearly flawlessly, but there are issues with the silk lining. The silk is shattering in places, but the issues remain hidden when worn, and to reiterate it is completely wearable as-is. The velvet feels pristine. With any questions about the specific condition or size, please email shop@verybreezy.com for additional photos or measurements, as all sales are final.
