Antique Cotton and Lace Dress with Soutache Appliqué, circa 1910
Antique Cotton and Lace Dress with Soutache Appliqué, circa 1910
Circa 1910, this rare antique cotton poplin day dress is richly decorated with lace inserts and soutache appliqué throughout. This is an absolutely stunning example of early-20th century dress, and a museum-worthy (and museum quality) work of art. This would be such a beautiful "Something Old" for a bride! The details on this dress are breathtaking, and to think most of them were done by hand is really astounding. Decorative (non-functional) crochet lace-covered buttons can be found at the bodice, and hemline. Light weights at the bottom of the skirt give it a great sweep; the weight of the cotton is such that it really holds its shape. This dress is in remarkably beautiful condition considering its age; it's only becoming harder to find these rare antique dresses in wearable condition. It closes up the back with hooks and eyes.
Measurements: It closes up the back with hooks and eyes. Note that the back closures below the waist have 2 hook placements, to adjust the size somewhat. This will best fit a size X-Small and Small but please refer to below measurements to be sure.
Great antique condition. This dress is in remarkably wonderful condition, especially considering it is over 120 years old. It's only becoming harder to find these rare antique dresses in wearable condition. But note that it is not perfect and there is some minor wear to the fabric in places, including some separation in the lace, but for the most part it fades into the design and openwork of the lace.
