This antique Victorian pendant is a hand-carved agate ewer (a pitcher). Prior to the Victorian era, these pitchers were most commonly used for pouring  water, or washing one's hands with rose water at the dinner table;  during the 19th century, they were used for serving wine. Ewers are a relatively common theme in Victorian jewelry, sometimes symbolizing the blood of Christ. A pitcher is also a mourning symbol of the Jewish culture, thanks to its close association with Levites. This pendant is carved from agate and the metal is gold-fill, the next-closest metal to solid gold, which is resistant to tarnishing and safe for the skin. The scroll handle allows any chain to easily pass through; the pendant is sold individually but you can also add a chain if you'd like. Measures about 2 cm long x just over 1 cm at widest point. The Vintage 14k Gold Cornicello Pendant pictured is also available.

Great antique condition, with minor general wear consistent with it's age (over 150 years old). With any questions about the specific condition or size, please email shop@verybreezy.com for additional photos or measurements, as all sales are final.
