EARLY 1960s EMPIRE WAIST EMBELLISHED TULLE GOWN

This stunning vintage gown reminds me of something Elizabeth Taylor would have worn in the 1950s, combined with Grace Kelly's iconic blue dress in To Catch a Thief, which has undoubtedly left an indelible impression on woman for nearly 70 years. It was made in the late 1950s/early 1960s it is the most beautiful Tiffany blue hue, with  gathered tulle at the bodice creating a very 1950s cap-sleeve shape. Beginning directly under the bust at an empire waist and extending to the natural waistline, embellishment defines the waistline, with inverted triangle shapes creating a very flattering hourglass trompe-l'œil. Individual prong-set crystals are scattered throughout the tulle overlay at the neckline; that same sheer, diaphanous fabric extends from the center waist all the way to the hem, like a free-flowing sash. Similarly, it is embellished to match the neckline, and I love that it adds a movement to the A-line skirt. It is so well-made— the way the crystals are set makes it so they don't catch and snag, and really has allowed this piece to stand the test of time. The dress is lined, and above the the chest to the shoulders, it's a nude mesh lining, to allow some skin to peek through. Made in the USA.
