This rare vintage Emma Melendez sterling silver bracelet is a piece of jewelry history, and an amazing collectible piece. It was made in the late 1950s/early 1960s by Mexican silversmith Emma Melendez, who opened her workshop in 1953 and was active until 1971. Emma was the niece of silversmith Rafael Melendez, the famed Mexican silversmith who was William Spratling's apprentice. This piece is a classic example of Emma Melendez's work; she was known for interpreting traditional Mayan and Aztec designs and symbolism. She also worked with oxidation as a design technique, which can be seen in the engraving on this bracelet; it's darker, to emphasize the design. This piece has a great patina to it and needs no additional cleaning or polishing. It is finished with a box clasp and safety chain. It is Marked EMMA STERLING TAXCO with an Eagle Mark, to denote the maker. The length is about 7/7.25". The safety chain could also easily be removed if you wish. Weighs 64 grams.
