Circa 1940s/early 1950s, this vintage gingham shirtwaist dress has a very unusual design, with a silhouette heavily inspired by Christian Dior's "New Look." Hallmarks of this "New Look" include rounded shoulders, a cinched waist (preferably with a fitted drop-waist bodice), a very full skirt, and a penchant for shirtwaist bodices — all present here! The fitted bodice has a dropped waist, and buttons down the front. The sash belt that sits at the hips, where the bodice meets the skirt, makes this piece really special. It is attached to the dress sin places, but is designed to sit away from the body, almost creating a peplum look. This, in conjunction with the snatched waist, creates that signature "New Look" hourglass shape. The skirt is a full thanks to gathering and there is a built in (red!) tulle petticoat lining that helps to emphasize the fullness; you could wear additional petticoats to further emphasize this shape.
Measurements: Will likely best fit a size Small and Medium; shown on a size X-Small and it is slightly large but definitely still works. Please refer to below measurements to be sure.

Chest: up to about 40" (works on much smaller as well/shirtwaist bodice is meant to be not as fitted)

Mid-Hips: 35" (taken about 7" down from natural waist)

Good vintage condition overall but there are some minor imperfections. Some repairs have been made to the fabric but they disappear into the pattern and are not visible when worn.
