Vintage 1940s Lilli Ann Wool Skirt Suit

This iconic vintage 1940s Lilli Ann wool skirt suit is the epitome of midcentury glamour. As a label, Lilli Ann is synonymous with high quality coats and suiting; during this era, the brand was sourcing fine fabrics from French and Italian textile houses.

Since its popularity in the 1940s, this silhouette has been referenced by designers like Thierry Mugler, Azzedine Alaïa, and John Galliano, who showed multiple particularly similar looks in his Fall 1998 runway collection— see below! The amazing construction is integral in creating this silhouette: Princess seams create incredible shape in the bodice of the jacket, giving way to a ruffled peplum flaring out from the waist– I absolutely LOVE that there is no waist seam; the peplum is from the same piece of fabric that starts at the shoulder. This is a testament to the incredible craftsmanship that went into the design and production of this piece, and it also really creates that elegant, flattering hourglass shape, without any interruption of a horizontal line. 
I also love that the jacket has so many delicate buttons down the front. The fabric has a trompe l'oeil effect, giving the appearance that there are little tears in the fabric, when it’s actually masterfully done embroidery– this gives a very Alexander McQueen vibe. The jacket is fully lined. The pencil skirt is high-waisted and fitted through the hips, contributing to that hourglass illusion, with a kick pleat at the back hem that allows for unrestricted movement.

Waist: 26" laid flat, up to 27" pulled taut (the button at the waistband could be moved around a bit to very easily adjust the waist measurement) 
Hips: 37" laid flat, up to 39" pulled taut
Length: 26.25"
