Vintage 1950s Gathered Silk Chiffon Fit-And-Flare Dress
Vintage 1950s Gathered Silk Chiffon Fit-And-Flare Dress
This vintage 1950s gathered silk chiffon fit and flare dress nothing short of ethereal, with its seafoam color and masterfully draped chiffon, evoking images of Greek sculpture. It reminds me of something Brigitte Bardot or Audrey Hepburn would have worn in the 1950s. The bateau neckline is so elegant and flattering— in this 1950s, this exaggerated bateau was referred to as a "Sabrina" neckline, named for the neckline made famous by Audrey Hepburn in 1954's Sabrina. Edith Head won an Academy Award for the movie's costume design in 1955. It is such a chic vintage bridal option for a "Something Blue," but would really fit a range of occasions. The bodice is fitted and it shape has the effect of lifting the bust up like a corset. It's so beautifully made, with a full bias-cut circle skirt creating gorgeous movement, complete with a hand rolled hand tacked chiffon hem. The dress is fully lined. Fiber contents are not indicated but the main fabric is silk chiffon. Closes with a side zipper.
The Vintage Diamanté Chandelier Earrings pictured are also available.
