Vintage 1960s Floral-Appliqué Embroidered Gown

Truly a one-of-a-kind vintage gown, this dress was custom-made in the late 1960s for a socialite of European nobility, who was prominent in both New York and European circles, and had an important collection of fashion and jewelry; the dress is completely one-of-a-kind. It's crafted of a black cotton-silk blend, with an elaborate trompe-l'œil effect: the checkered print is actually printed on the fabric, whereas the floral motif is all embroidered, creating rich dimension. It features sculptural red flower appliqué throughout— each one has a three-dimensional yellow stamen detail at the center. It is fitted through the bodice, with gathering at the chest. With a waist seam at the underbust, the waist is fitted through the natural waist with shaping seams, giving that hourglass "snatched" look. The flounce hem scallops upward at the center bottom like a curtain, and this same detail is echos on the bell sleeves. This dress is bra-friendly; it has "bra-holder" straps at the shoulder, which snap to hold a bra strap in place, so that it's not slipping out/becoming visible at the neckline. This is just one of many thoughtful construction elements that make this dress so luxurious and special— there are also protectors at the underarm's interior to prevent discoloration from perspiration. It closes with a zipper down the back.

Measurements: Note that there is excess fabric inside the dress that make it very easy to let out and make larger. Likewise, it could be very easily taken in using these same existing seams. As-is, it will fit up to a size Medium, though it could be let out to fit up to a size Large or possibly larger; please refer to below measurements to be sure. It is shown clipped on a size X-Small to simulate proper fit.
