Vintage 1960s Silk Faille Long Sleeve Minidress
Vintage 1960s Silk Faille Long Sleeve Minidress
This vintage 1960s shift dress is an embodiment of classic Jackie Kennedy-meets-Twiggy early 1960s style. Though its labels have been removed, it's highly reminiscent of Pierre Cardin designs from this era, and it's so incredibly well made. The belt, featuring a stunning crystal accent, provides a sort of empire waistline, but it's fully detachable, so the dress can be worn with or without the belt. Princess seams provide shape to the otherwise A-line, unfitted silhouette. I love the ruffle details that go all the way down. This is a versatile dress that's so easy to wear for both daytime or a cocktail party, depending on how you style. Note that no fiber contents are listed but the faille feels like silk, and it has a gorgeous structure to it. Closes in the back with a zipper.
Good vintage condition overall, with some minor flaws that do not detract from the wearability, and it is priced as-is. On one section of the belt, the fabric's color has faded a bit; the textured nature of the silk faille makes this less noticeable. I had a the idea to remake the belt, using a piece of fabric removed from the dress's hem; I am willing to do this alteration for a fee (or you could do it on your own) but note that it would make the length shorter. There is some discoloration to the dress's lining, part of which also affected a tiny spot on the ruffled collar, but because of the way it's gathered, as well as the angle the fabric sits, it's not visible when worn.
