This rare vintage 1960s Sybil Connolly velvet dress is an exquisitely crafted couture piece, of gorgeous emerald velvet. So many thoughtful details make this piece special: the pleated stitches at the shoulder are so beautifully done, and they give way to a beautifully sculpted sleeve. Similarly, at the Basque-waist bodice, pleating at the waistband is overlayed with oversized pockets— this creates a slight tulip shape. Sybil Connolly was an Irish designer, trained at Queen Mary's court, who had a very successful, internationally-renowned couture line in the 1950s and 1960s. The dress is the perfect example of her work: understated, elegant, and excellently crafted of the finest textiles. The velvet is so lush (it feels like a silk/cotton blend) and the dress is fully lined in the softest silk.
