Vintage 1960s Couture Velveteen Dress with Embroidery and Appliqué

This vintage 1960s black velvet dress is a one-of-a-kind work of couture, custom-made for a prominent socialite of European nobility, a fixture in both New York and European social circles— she had a very important collection of fashion and jewelry, including this dress!  It's crafted of cotton velveteen, with a pattern of colorful embroidery, including some metallic elements— I love the way the diamonds become denser through the skirt of the dress, like snowflakes falling. The colors and details of the embroidery are exquisite— at the neckline, some patchwork appliqué extends onto the neckline, for an artful finishing touch. It can easily be a cocktail look and will look wonderful with sparkling accessories, but could definitely be dressed down as well, and even worn for daytime. The ultra-flattering square neckline is wide, with a slightly curved cut that really accentuates the curves in a subtle and unique way. It is fitted through the bodice, with gathering at the chest, and a waistband at the empire waist, remaining fitted through the natural waist with shaping seams, giving way to an A-line skirt, complete with 3/4 bell sleeves. This dress is bra-friendly; it has "bra-holder" straps at the shoulder, which snap to hold a bra strap in place, so that it's not slipping out/becoming visible at the neckline. This is just one of many thoughtful construction elements that make this dress so luxurious and special— there are also protectors at the underarm's interior to prevent discoloration from perspiration. It closes with a zipper down the back.

Measurements: Note that there is excess fabric inside the dress that make it very easy to let out and make larger. Likewise, it could be very easily taken in using these same existing seams. As-is, it will fit a size Small/Medium, though it could be let out to fit a significantly larger size. It is shown clipped on a size X-Small to simulate proper fit.
