Vintage Adolfo Knit Dress
Vintage Adolfo Knit Dress
This dress was made by Adolfo in the late 1970s (possibly as late as 1981) and I completely adore this look; it's giving a bit of of "Eloise at the Plaza," mixed with the "Old Money Aesthetic" TikTok trend. Adolfo was an apprentice to Balenciaga as a teenager, and later began his career in New York as milliner. It was only later that he ventured into making clothing to complement the hats, but by the 1960s, he was dressing every stylish woman who mattered, from Jackie Kennedy Onassis to the Duchess of Windsor and Gloria Vanderbilt. This dress is made of a wool blend knit at it has the perfect weight to it, with a fine yet structured feel, so it looks goof both tight (stretched) and worn looser. The red part is actually appliqué, and I love the sort of mod motif. It has small shoulder pads, with a gathered puff at the shoulder, and sleeves that are more tapered. The decorative gold buttons add to the super rich feeling. Closes with a hidden zipper in the back.
The Vintage Oversized Pearl Drop Earrings are also available.
