This vintage 1970s Bill Blass long sleeve cocktail dress is so elegant: I love the contrast of the structured stretch Duchesse satin and the delicate lace inset, with scalloped edges. The construction of this dress is so exquisite, with so many thoughtful details that create a amazing shape, and make this piece feel like a work of art— there is a draped bustle in the back that makes it so unique! I also love the pleating at the shoulder, the way the sleeves taper towards the cuff (with fabric-covered button closures), the Basque waist bodice, and the geometric panels of the skirt, which create an A-line shape reminiscent of what you would see inn a 1930s bias cut silhouette. All of this structure is made possible by the very specific Duchesse satin, which has slight stretch to it, and a significant weight.
