Vintage 1980s Loris Azzaro Polka Dot Corset Two-Piece Dress
Vintage 1980s Loris Azzaro Polka Dot Corset Two-Piece Dress
This iconic Loris Azzaro two piece set consists of a corset top and skirt, which look like a dress when worn together, but offer the flexibility of pairing with other pieces– so many different looks are possible! Loris Azzaro founded his label in 1967, and quickly became known for dressing iconic women like Brigitte Bardot, Sophia Loren, and Raquel Welch. As a designer, he always emphasized a woman's body in a sensual way, without being overtly sexy, and I just love his designs, which are constantly referenced by contemporary designers to this day. These classic 1980s silhouettes are having a huge moment, but nothing beats the original vintage pieces, and this is a great way to get the look. The top is fully pintucked, with horizontal pleats at the waist and vertical pleats at the chest. I love the sweet lettuce ruffled edges. The skirt is such a cool piece, with an underskirt in a pencil skirt shape, and a peplum overskirt which is longer in the back and shortens to a true peplum length in the front.
NOTE: I love that the color is somewhat ambiguous; it's a soft black which in some lights reads black, in some lights reads somewhat navy, and even at times has a metallic silver-y sheen to it. It's one of those that will look right paired with any of the above colors, and literally any other color you can think of.
