This vintage 1980s Victor Costa long sleeve dress is classic 1980s glamour— it's nailing Tiktok's "Old Money Aestethic" trend. It features a long-sleeve wool bodice with decorative jeweled buttons and exaggerated shoulders that taper to fitted sleeves. The waist is cinched with a velvet picot-edged ribbon belt, that ties in a bow in the back. The taffeta skirt is gathered at the waist to create romantic fullness, and there is a built-in tulle petticoat to emphasize the volume. The length is so elegant, and I love that it's hitting at more of a tea length as opposed to floor length. (It's shown on someone 5'7" but would be easy to hem if needed.) It could also be worn without the belt altogether, or with a different belt. The "buttons" are non-functional, and it closes in the back with a hidden zipper. No fiber contents are listed but the bodice feels like a wool blend.
This dress was designed and produced by Victor Costa, and sold at the luxury department store I. Magnin. After studying in Paris, Victor Costa got his start in the New York fashion world making wedding gowns, and he translated that same fantasy into his subsequent foray in the ready-to-wear world. In 1973, he started his own eponymous label, Victor Costa, and cultivated a large following of customers and fans, including Whitney Houston and the cast of the television series Dynasty. Costa is best known for his decidedly "American" interpretation of European couture.
Measurements: This will best fit a size Medium but could work on smaller- Shown here unpinned on a size X-Small and the bodice has a slightly more blouson effect (not fitted) but it still works! Please refer to below measurements to be sure.
