This Chinese cloisonné heart necklace is so beautiful and makes for a lovely one-of-a-kind vintage gift (or gift to yourself!). To appreciate the craftsmanship, one needs to understand the process of makingcloisonné. Derived from the French word cloison (meaning"to separate") in this process fine metals are soldered to create an outline of the desired pattern. These compartments are filled with different colors of opaque enamel, and the metallic outline emphasizes the intricacy of the design. This pendant is a three-dimensional heart shape, with the same design on each side. The chain is not included, but you have the option of including either a velvet ribbon or a 14k gold chain; the bale is large enough that it would accomodate most chains you might already have.
