Vintage French Louis Rousselet Pearl Cluster Earrings

These rare vintage Louis Rousselet earrings are so delicate yet irreverent, and totally unique. These were made in the late 1940s by acclaimed French jeweler Louis Rousselet; from when he opened shop in 1922 until the 1970s, Rousselet was one of THE most important French jewelers, during which time he was the premier manufacturer of glass pearls and beads, as well as costume jewelry for haute couture. He was known for adorning starlets like Joséphine Baker with his signature beads, aand in the 1930s, Mistinguett was the house's muse. These earrings are exemplary of Rousselet's work. Made in the 1950s, they feature delicate seed pearls and larger irregular baroque-shaped pearls, which Rousselet was known for manufacturing himself. The stones are hand-wired, and the dangling parts move freely. The classic pearls make these such an apt "Something Old" for a bridal look— one that you'll wear for years to come. They fasten with his signature clip-on lever-back closure, which is exceptionally comfortable; vintage clip-ons are so much more comfortable and secure to wear compared to their modern counterparts, largely due to the quality and thought that went into their hand-made construction. They are hallmarked FRANCE; Note they are not signed but this is typical of Rousselet's work and then have been authenticated as Louis Rousselet. He typically signed the company name on paper hang tags as opposed to a maker's mark stamp. They are complete with his signature backing and hinged clasp, and he hallmarked "FRANCE" a very particular way. (Even the part that sits against the ear is complete with ornate silver filigree work, showing an attention to detail and craftsmanship that is literally impossible to find in modern jewelry!) They measure about 2 cm total length.
