Vintage Scarab Necklace
Vintage Scarab Necklace
This vintage scarab necklace is such a timeless addition to any jewelry wardrobe; I adore scarab jewelry in all forms. How did a lowly specimen become an exalted figure, represented in jewelry for centuries? It started with the ancient Egyptians, who associated scarabs (aka dung beetles) with the sun god Ra, and considered the animal an important representation of personal growth, and the cycle of life. During the Victorian era, "Egyptomania" took hold, and scarabs became more popular than ever— in some cases, actual desecrated beetles were used in the jewels. As of late, we've seen houses like Gucci embrace the scarab. This necklace features a variety of colors, including turquoise, amber, coral, emerald, black, and sapphire blue; I love that the pattern is irregular. Closes with a fish hook clasp, and measures about 17.25"
The Italian Vintage Tweed Wool Blazer pictured is also available.
