Vintage Sweetheart Neckline Long Sleeve Gown with Floral Embroidery

This vintage gown is so special— it's entirely one-of-a-kind, and it shows. It was custom-made in the 1970s for a socialite of European nobility, who was prominent in both New York and European circles, and had an important collection of fashion and jewelry; the dress is completely one-of-a-kind. It has so many hand-finished details throughout. The black silk fabric is embroidered with red poppy flowers, with metallic embroidered details throughout— the flowers' center is gold metallic thread, which can make the look feel a bit dressed up, and fun to pair with jewelry/accessories. This piece is actually quite versatile, as it could read formal/evening, or slightly more casual, depending on on how you style it. I love that it's seasonless as well, working year-round. The gathered chest and yoke waist really create a flattering hourglass shape. Likewise, the flattering sweetheart neckline shows a bit of décolletage in an otherwise-covered look. The skirt has the slightest A-line, and the bell sleeves echo this shape. The fabric feels like 100% silk, but could also be a silk blend. This dress is bra-friendly; it has "bra-holder" straps at the shoulder, which snap to hold a bra strap in place, so that it's not slipping out/becoming visible at the neckline. This is just one of many thoughtful construction elements that make this dress so luxurious and special— there are also protectors at the underarm's interior to prevent discoloration from perspiration. It closes with a zipper down the back.

Measurements: Note that there is excess fabric inside the dress that make it very easy to let out and make larger. Likewise, it could be very easily taken in using these same existing seams. As-is, it will likely fit up to a size Medium, though it could be let out to fit up to a size Large or possibly larger, but please refer to below measurements to be sure. It is shown clipped on a size X-Small to simulate proper fit.

Great vintage condition, with minor wear commensurate with age, including minor loss to embroidery which is not noticeable when worn. The dress presents impeccably.
