This vintage Thierry Mugler jacket and skirt suit hails from the iconic designer's Fall 1992 runway collection— see a version of it on the runway below. Thierry Mugler and his work have been the subject of countless museum retrospective for a reason: he is responsible for defining the fashion landscape of the late 1980s and early 1990s, with his unabashedly feminine, sensual, borderline-campy perspective. This jacket is so exemplary of Mugler's inimitable style: it's made with the most beautiful construction, with many different pieces tailored together like a puzzle to create a very flattering fit. The exaggerated long lapels lead to a nipped waist, which gives way to a sculptural peplum— all Mugler hallmarks, which contribute to a very flattering hourglass shape. Shoulder pads subtly emphasize this shape. The snap closure at the waist is covered with a sculptural silver X (mirrored at each cuff) another signature of Mugler from this period. I love the matching pleated wrap skirt— in a sea of fitted pencil skirts from this era, this one really stands out. The drop-waist skirt has pleats beginning at the hips, with a box pleat in the center, and pleats fanning out in opposite directions from there. It has a wrap style, with three snaps closing the front panel, and a snap closure at the waistband. Each of these pieces is as beautiful worn separate as they are together. Made in France of 100% wool. Complete with the Thierry Mugler brand tag as well as the Bergdorf Goodman tag (retailer from which it was purchased). Jacket is fully lined.
