Vintage Victorian Etruscan Revival Style Earrings
Vintage Victorian Etruscan Revival Style Earrings
These vintage gold dangle earrings are done in the Victorian Etruscan revival style, and are such a wearable addition to any jewelry wardrobe. Though the Etruscans are largely overshadowed by the Romans in history, the Etruscan civilization (8th—2nd century BCE) were tremendously influential, known especially for their artistic achievement. They existed in present-day Western Italy, and made beautiful jewelry from precious stones and metals. In the later Georgian period, archeologists unearthed the ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Into the Victorian period, these newfound designs and their aesthetic fascinated the world and the British people in particular, and jewelers mimicked ancient designs, with new technology making it easier to work with the gold and precious metals. These earrings feature an etched matte gold surface, with three elongated teardrop dangling from a larger dome. Each of these piece is carved out and hollow on the reverse, making them lightweight and not overly dense. They are finished in the back with a lever clip-on back. Vintage clip-ons are so much more comfortable and secure to wear compared to their modern counterparts, largely due to the quality and thought that went into their hand-made construction. Measures 38 mm long. The Vintage Baroque Cross Pendant pictured is also available.
