Circa 1880, this rare antique Victorian beaded bag is a true museum-worthy object. In the 19th century, these were known as "Miser's purses," and believe it or not, the oblong shape originated from the medieval practice of carrying coins in the toe of a stocking. The beadwork here is so intricate, and it's all done by hand— it is blue, with alternating rows of open netted beadwork, and a floral, tapestry-like design. The blue hues make this a wonderful "Something Blue" (and "Something Old") for a bride! But it's truly something that could be displayed in one's home as art. There is a little finial ball that hands from the bottom and the interior is fully lined. The braided handle was added later, as there was some substantial damage to the beadwork of the original handle. (The original handle is still inside the bag.) Also, there is more ribbon hidden inside to make the straps a bit longer. About 7" long x 5" wide laid flat.

The Vintage Empire Waist Column Dress with Velvet Waistband pictured is also available.
