1930s-Style Empire Waist Column Dress With Velvet Waistband
1930s-Style Empire Waist Column Dress With Velvet Waistband
This vintage maxidress is done in a beautiful classic 1930s style, with a square neckline, flutter cape sleeves, and a shape that almost simulates that timeless 1930s bias-cut shape, but in a more structured linen fabric. I love how the unexpected ball fringe trim on the sleeves further emphasizes their beautifully draped shape. So many thoughtful and well-executed design details went into making this dress, and its very apparent. The bodice is very fitted and shaped with darts, and at the empire waist, there is a moss green velvet waistband, which forms a bow to one side in the back— the back's asymmetry is so elegant. I can't say enough how much I love this combination of powder blue and deep moss green— it's so chic and unexpected. The powder blue color make this an excellent "Something Blue" (and "Something Old") for a bride-to-be's bridal shower or other bridal event. Horse hair in the hem to gives the skirt an amazing shape— the hem is ever-so-slightly longer in the back, giving that really full, sweeping shape. Made in the USA; no fiber contents are listed but it feels like 100% heavy linen (or linen blend).
