Vintage 90s Bias-Cut Open-Back Beaded Gown
Vintage 90s Bias-Cut Open-Back Beaded Gown
This vintage beaded gown was made in the 90s and reminds me exactly of the dresses John Galliano was doing in the 90s, both at Christian Dior and at his eponymous label. He often referenced vintage dresses from the 1930s, and this dress has that same ultra-flattering bias cut silhouette. The unique beading looks so rich, forming an intricate botanical motif. The open low back is so sexy yet elegant— the straps are meant to cross in the back, but it can also be styled as a halter, as shown in some images. The bias cut naturally creates a mermaid-like shape through the skirt, and the ruffle coming down the side emphasizes this romantic silhouette. The ruffle traced in beading for further highlight the shape and catch the eye. It comes with a matching chiffon scarf, which looks so elegant draped around the neck, or as a shawl. The dress is fully lined; note that there is no closure and the dress slips on overhead.
The Vintage Jacky de G Star Earrings pictured are also available.
Measurements: Please note that this will fit a range of sizes well, as the bias-cut naturally stretches AND shrinks with the curves of the body; additionally, the open back make the bodice sizing flexible. (The fact that the dress slips on overhead with no closures emphasizes its ability to stretch to meet different bodies.) Shown unpinned on a size X-Small, will likely fit a size X-Small, Small, and probably Medium, but please refer to below measurements, which reflect an approximate range. Marked a size 40.
Chest: Chest is flexible due to the very open back and bias cut. It is about 33" laid flat but could also fit larger.
Waist: 25-29"
Hips: 36-40.5"
Length: 53" down center front from V neck to hem (would be easy to hem if desired)
Scarf: 76.5" long x 17.5" tall
Great vintage condition, and the dress presents beautifully, with some minor wear commensurate with age, including minor, faint discoloration/imperfections to fabric, which are mostly towards the hem or back of skirt. They are not noticeable when worn, especially because there is a lot of fabric. No notable loss to dress's beading (but note that some minor loss is typically expected with vintage beaded dresses. Some extra beads are sewn into the dress to replace any that potentially are lost.) On the scarf, there is one triangle of beading missing, but it isn't noticeable because it's on the very end and looks intentional.
