1960s Vendome Pavé Crystal Bombe Earrings
1960s Vendome Pavé Crystal Bombe Earrings
These vintage pavé-set bombe earrings were made by Vendome in the 1960s. Their colorless crystals are set in gold-tone metal, which is less common to find among midcentury crystal jewelry. They feature a unique lever clip-on earring back, which Coro (Vendome's parent company) patented in 1957. It was innovative by definition to receive a patent, and it was designed with the specific goal of being comfortable and secure. Vintage earrings in general, but especially these with the special patented back, are so much more comfortable and secure to wear compared to their modern counterparts, largely due to the quality and thought that went into their hand-made construction. The back is also hollow, in a convex shape, to rid the earring of excess mass and weight. Measures 25 mm long x 18 mm wide.
What's amazing about this pair is that they can be worn on the earlobe, or higher on the cartilage, and are thus great for layering with other earrings, as shown. The Vintage Christian Dior Black Enamel Half Hoop Earrings and Vintage Oval-Cut Crystal Half Hoop Earrings pictured are also available.
Great vintage condition. Some of the stones are slightly darkened, but since they ar so sparkly, it honestly just contributes to the overall effect.
